“This is a core and highly important course for every Chemistry student, particularly because spectroscopy is an essential part of chemical analysis and structure elucidation. Unfortunately, I do not feel that the course was delivered in the way such an important subject deserves. Students were often asked to prepare presentations on topics from the course outline without first receiving sufficient instruction or conceptual guidance from the instructor. In some cases, entire major topics, such as NMR spectroscopy, were covered within a single 45-minute lecture, which made it extremely difficult to develop a proper understanding of the concepts. The assessment was another major concern. The quizzes, midterms, and final examinations often contained questions that seemed disproportionately difficult and beyond what had been adequately covered or explained in class. I believe the course would have been much more beneficial with systematic lectures and stronger conceptual teaching.”
